Combat Books by the Door
by Sandy Lawrence Zeigler

Backstory
Sandy approached me with a wealth of materials, including hundreds of photos, news articles, clippings, Zip drives, CDs, and even a few floppy disks, all bursting with ideas. She envisioned her book as a vibrant, magazine-style collection filled with diverse stories and striking visuals. Over the course of two years, we collaborated on compiling and designing this project, driven by Sandy's passion to document her own story alongside those of her high school graduating class. As she expressed, "We are the last generation that can share first-hand stories of World War II."
Sandy was 84 at the completion of her book. During the two years, she faced a number of serious body and health issue that could have stopped her but she continued to pursue her life-long dream of writing a book. She taught me a lot about pressing on when the hurdle looks too big, and the odds are against you. I am so proud of her accomplishment in fulfilling her dream, it was truly an honor to be part of her dream and for the dear friends we will forever hold dearly.
